Call For Papers

The Africa Animal Welfare Conference (AAWC) 2019 will be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 2-4 September 2019. The conference will take place at the United Nations Conference Centre-Addis Ababa,(UNCC-AA), within the larger United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UN ECA) Complex. The conference is organized by Africa Network for Animal Welfare (ANAW) in partnership with UN Environment.

Key Conference Objectives

To demonstrate the link between animal welfare, wildlife and environmental conservation and the attainment of sustainable development in Africa.

To entrench the role of communities in achieving responsible handling of animals, improving animal welfare and supporting wildlife and environmental conservation in Africa

To develop benchmarks and resources for necessary advice and support for stakeholders in animal Welfare, wildlife and environment issues across Africa.

To establish a focused and well-informed caucus of animal welfare practitioners and stakeholders who are cognizant of prevailing policies and legislation and any gaps thereof.

To relate and connect the issue of animal welfare, wildlife and environmental conservation to the work of UN Environment and United Nations Environment Assembly

Guidelines for Abstract Submission

  • The abstract should highlight the sub theme that the paper focuses on
  • The title of the presentation
  • Name(s) and Institutional affiliation(s) of the author(s)
  • Telephone and email contact of the corresponding author
  • Abstract should not exceed 300 words
  • The text should be MS Word format, Font size 12, Times New Roman, 1.5 spacing

Theme of the Conference is : Animals, Environment and Sustainable Development in 21stCentury Africa: An Interlinked Approach.

  • The United Nations Environment Assembly and how it can contribute to improvement of animal welfare in Africa

The Conference invites submission of abstracts for paper or poster presentations at the conference as contextualized on the sub themes.

The deadline for abstract submission is 30th June 2019

Successful authors will be notified of their abstract acceptance by 10th July 2019 and will be expected to submit in soft copy full papers of not more than 5000 words by 25th July 2019, and presentations in Power Point formats of not more than 15 slides by 30th July 2019.

Africa Animal Welfare Conference is an annual conference co-hosted by Africa Network for Animal Welfare (ANAW) in collaboration with UN Environment for professionals and practitioners, coming together to discuss issues that cut across animal welfare, wildlife and environmental conservation.
